Immigration Physicals

Drs. Frank, Sussman, Friedman and Applebaum of North Penn Family Medicine Physicians are certified civil surgeons designated by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) to conduct INS 693 immigration physical medical exams for permanent residency.

We are flexible in our scheduling, can schedule next day appointments, can accommodate families, and will provide only the necessary immunizations.

Bring to the office with you:

  1. INS Form I-693
  2. Your passport
  3. One form of photo identification
  4. Your medical records if you have them
  5. Your vaccination records from birth if you have them (these are very helpful)

Who needs an I-693 medical examination?

A medical examination is mandatory for:

  • Refugees entering the United States
  • Applicants applying for a VISA to the United States
  • Aliens changing their status from immigration status to permanent resident status

Who can perform an I-693 medical examination for me?

Your family physician cannot perform the immigration physical. Only a licensed physician by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) can perform the exam.

What does the medical examination involve?

  1. A Physical Examination
  2. Tuberculin (TB) Skin Test for applicants aged 2 and older. You will need to return to the office 2-3 days after the test is administered to check for the reaction for tuberculosis. If the reaction is positive a chest x-ray will be required.
  3. Blood test for HIV and for syphilis
  4. Your age determines which vaccinations are required.  Requirements are based on the recommendations of the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices (ACIP).  You may need to be given some of the folllowing immunizations:  mumps, measles, rubella, polio, influenza type B, hepatitis B, tetanus, diphtheria toxoids, pertussis, varicella (chicken pox), haemophilius influenza type B, and pneumococcal vaccines. You only need shots that you have not had before.

We will help you determine which immunizations you need.

Which vaccinations should I have before I come to the exam?

We strongly recommend at you do not have any immunizations or vaccinations before you come to our office.  We will help you determine the minimum medically necessary and appropriate vaccinations you will need and we will provide the immunizations for you.  Make sure you bring with you your vaccination records with you.

Can I get my blood work and chest x-ray done somewhere else?

We strongly recommend that you get your blood work at North Penn Family Medicine so that only the medically necessary and appropriate bloodwork will be drawn.  A chest x-ray, if needed, may be needed after the PPD is administered and it can be done at any facility.  An x-ray facility at Abington Health Lansdale Hospital is very close to our office.

Will my insurance company pay for the immigration exam?

Payment is expected in full at the time of service.  Some insurance companies may pay for the cost of the exam and you can submit the receipt to your insurance company for reimbursement.

How can I find out the status of my case?
